How To Build A Pedestal Bedframe
After a tiring days work and the pressure sustained by our bodies, all we need are a comfortable bed and a good nights sleep. A pedestal bed is a very comfortable bed to sleep on; it is even comfortable to carry while moving. Pedestal bedframes are a better option when compared with standard bed frames but the only difficulty with this is that generally they are not found in standard materials and sizes.
Pedestal bed frames have flat side frames and panels on the exterior sides with some connectors in the interior plane. They are also known as platform beds. The central panel interconnects the side panels in pairs. There is a rectangular box which is a connector and is positioned in empty spaces in the central panels. To support the weight, additional connector posts and fasteners are fixed in the central panel. These assist in giving the bed square configurations with its central and side panels.
The first and foremost thing you need to do in order to build a pedestal bed frame is to get all the items ready - sketch plan, tape for measurement, wooden saw or a power saw, screw-drivers, power-drills, sand paper, carpentry tools, and nails. You can even opt for pre-cut wooden slabs. These all are needed in constructing a pedestal bed frame and can be found at most local hardware stores or any home improvement superstore. Then the standard measurement of a regular bed is taken and the frame is cut in the required dimensions - frames of 54 inches and 80 inches cut respectively in pairs. Another set of 42 inches and 16 inches are also sliced and set aside in pairs. Then all these are assembled placing the central and side panel in place. You should always be careful that you choose the mattress suiting the width of the bed frame or vice versa. And always follow safety rules such as wearing a mask while sawing the wood, wearing gloves and being careful during their disposal.
While choosing a mattress for your pedestal bed frame, always bear in mind that only specific types of mattresses are comfortable on these frames. Water beds and memory foam are considered to be the most suitable of all and are generally found on all kinds of pedestal bed frames.
Another very popular type of pedestal bed frame is the captains bed. These may be easily accommodated in childrens rooms and offer great storage space. Below the mattress many drawers can be constructed with wooden platforms which provide you with a good storage area. Even as an additional feature, a trundle bed can be included which can be easily used at the arrival of any guest.
Bed frames are always optional but a pedestal bed frame adds style and elegance to your decor. A very huge bed frame might add glamour to the room but you should always make sure that you never over-crowd your room. Pedestal beds can be made according to individual needs, choice and comfort.
